Residents and staff at Silvanna Court Care Home, part of Runwood Homes Group, were treated to a heartwarming musical surprise, as a donated parlour piano arrived at the home which was accompanied by an impromptu mini recital.

The generous donation came from a local businesswoman and long-time friend of the home. With the help of community spirit, the piano was transported by the home’s receptionist, his brother, and father, using a van kindly lent by a family member. The moment the piano arrived, the home came alive with music, laughter, and fond memories.

Leah, Lifestyle Coordinator at Silvanna Court, said:
“Music is so important for our residents’ wellbeing. Many of them have wonderful memories of singing around the piano at home, in pubs, schools, and churches. We used to have a piano at Silvana Court, and the residents really missed it when it was gone — so when this opportunity came up, I knew we had to bring music back into the heart of our home.”

The atmosphere was one of excitement and joy, with residents singing along and staff revealing their hidden musical talents.

Two residents shared their delight:
“How very kind for someone to donate such a wonderful gift,” said Ivy, a resident.
“It is just marvellous,” added Jean, another resident.

A standout moment was when members of staff gathered around the new piano to play, impressing everyone and adding to the happy atmosphere.

This event highlighted not only the therapeutic power of music but also the strength of community collaboration. It was a truly memorable day for all involved at Silvanna Court.
