Residents and staff at Broomhills Care Home , part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently experienced a heartwarming moment when a simple act of kindness brought the world to resident’s bedsides, through the power of virtual reality.

On 30 October 2025, the Broomhills team created a magical experience for one of their cherished residents, who is cared for in bed and had never had the opportunity to go on holiday before. Wanting to make a dream come true, Jean, one of the home’s caring domestic assistants, decided to bring the outside world in by sharing her personal virtual reality headset.

With support from the care team, the headset was gently placed over the resident’s eyes, and within moments, the room was filled with gasps of amazement and joy. The resident was transported to breathtaking destinations, from the glittering lights of Las Vegas to the romantic canals of Italy, experiencing the colours, sounds, and beauty of faraway places for the very first time.

For those who witnessed it, the moment was moving. As the residents looked around in awe, they softly shared that they had never seen anything so beautiful in their life. The atmosphere in the room was warm, emotional, and filled with smiles, a true reflection of the compassion and dedication that defines the Broomhills community.

Paige Murray, Home Manager at Broomhills Care Home, said the experience perfectly captured the heart of what care is all about.

“For the first time, they could see the world beyond the walls of their room, the colours, the sounds, the beauty of faraway places.”

The event served as a beautiful reminder that joy can be found in the simplest acts of kindness. Whether it’s sharing a smile, a story, or a virtual adventure around the world, the team at Broomhills Care Home continues to go above and beyond to make every day meaningful for their residents.
