A 102-year-old resident at Frank Foster House Care Home, part of Runwood Homes Group, ,part of the Runwood Homes Group, has shown that age and the festive rush are no barrier to maintaining cherished routines and lifelong community connections.

Alice recently ventured out to Geraldine’s Hair Fashions in Debden for her regular fortnightly appointment, continuing a tradition she has enjoyed for more than 50 years. Alice has been a loyal client ever since salon owner Geraldine was a trainee and remains committed to her visits even after moving to Frank Foster House in Theydon Bois earlier this year.

The heartwarming story was originally featured by Everything Epping Forest, which previously highlighted Alice’s special relationship with the salon when she was presented with a birthday cake to celebrate her 100th birthday. Frank Foster House is delighted to see Alice recognised once again for her remarkable independence and strong ties to the local community.

Born in Fulham, London, Alice worked in an aircraft factory in Cricklewood during the Second World War before moving to Debden on New Year’s Eve in 1949. She later worked at the opticians on The Broadway, an area she still enjoys visiting today.

Frank Foster House is proud to support residents like Alice in continuing the routines and relationships that matter most to them. Maintaining independence, choice and meaningful connections remains a key part of the home’s person-centred approach to care, and the team is pleased to see Alice’s story celebrated by the wider community.
