Residents at Elizabeth House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed an energetic and heartwarming visit from George and Zack of the Southend United Academy on 11th February 2026.

The academy coaches spent meaningful time with residents, delivering a range of gentle, inclusive sporting activities designed to suit all abilities. The session included light ball games, seated exercises and fun coordination challenges, all delivered with patience, encouragement and plenty of community spirit.

The visit formed part of the Academy’s 12-week community outreach programme, offering residents regular opportunities to engage in physical activity while strengthening connections with the wider community.

Residents Valerie and Jo shared how much they value the weekly sporting and exercise sessions, saying they are so happy to have them and really enjoy taking part.

Alongside residents, carers and Wellbeing Leads Jess and Karen joined in the activities, creating a supportive and inclusive environment. A standout moment from the day was seeing the residents’ excitement when they succeeded in a challenge, proudly celebrating their wins together.

Visits such as this play an important role in supporting residents’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing. Gentle exercise helps maintain mobility, coordination and circulation, while shared activities foster connection, confidence and a sense of belonging.

Elizabeth House looks forward to continuing the 12-week programme and building on this positive partnership with Southend United Academy.
