A remarkable milestone was celebrated at Lower Meadow care home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, as resident Winifred “Anne” marked her 100th birthday on 28 March 2026, surrounded by her loved ones and care staff.
Anne, described as a humble and private individual, chose to celebrate the occasion in a simple yet meaningful way. Rather than hosting a large party, she requested an intimate gathering with her family, where they could spend quality time together and mark the moment with a celebratory glass of champagne.
The care team at Lower Meadow thoughtfully decorated the lounge area to create a warm and special atmosphere, while respecting Anne’s wishes for a low-key celebration. Family members joined her for the occasion, making it a heartfelt event for everyone involved.
The highlight of the celebration came as Anne read her birthday card from His Majesty The King, followed by a toast with champagne alongside her family. The moment was filled with emotion, as Anne expressed her joy at being surrounded by those closest to her.
Anne herself shared her delight, with her family recalling that she “had a lovely birthday” and was “ecstatic” not only to receive her card from the King, but also to celebrate with a glass of champagne alongside her loved ones.
This centenary celebration highlights the importance of personal, resident-led experiences at Lower Meadow, ensuring every milestone is celebrated in a way that is meaningful to the individual.
