Liberty House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, marked VE Day with a heartfelt celebration as staff and residents came together to remember the end of the Second World War and reflect on years gone by.

The event, which took place on the 8th of May, saw residents and staff embracing the occasion by dressing up in patriotic colours, waving Union Jack flags and wearing themed hats. Residents also enjoyed getting creative by making a special VE Day banner to display around the home.

Throughout the day, the atmosphere at Liberty House was filled with conversation, laughter and shared memories, as residents reminisced about street parties and celebrations they experienced when peace was declared.

In the afternoon, residents took part in VE Day-themed bingo before enjoying special cupcakes together at teatime.

Kelly, Administrator at Liberty House, said: “It’s so wonderful to see staff and residents dressed up and celebrating VE Day.”

Resident Julie added: “I loved doing the VE Day arts and crafts decorations.”

Rukshani, Lifestyle Coordinator at Liberty House, said: “This is my first dress-up day at Liberty House. I’ve had so much fun celebrating with staff and residents.”

Resident Jean reflected on the occasion, saying: “I remember the first time we celebrated VE Day all them years ago and it brings back happy memories for me.”

The celebration was organised to ensure residents and staff could come together to honour such a meaningful day. For many residents, VE Day remains an important moment in history that they personally remember, making the event especially poignant and joyful for everyone involved.PXL 20260508 100913841 Wellbeing Liberty PXL 20260508 090427753 Wellbeing Liberty PXL 20260508 0927311722 Wellbeing Liberty PXL 20260508 093134965 Wellbeing Liberty PXL 20260508 094356223 Wellbeing Liberty
