Heron Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, residents, families, and team members came together on Friday 7 May to commemorate VE Day through a heartfelt remembrance event that honoured the experiences of those who lived through the Second World War.
The event was inspired by informal conversations with residents’ relatives and developed into an opportunity to reflect on the realities of wartime Britain. Residents who witnessed the events of the war first-hand shared powerful personal memories, helping to preserve an important part of history for younger generations.
A display featuring photographs and historical information was created in the corridor, drawing admiration from residents, relatives, and staff alike. Ariel, Lifestyle Coordinator at Heron Court, spent time speaking with residents and their families about their experiences and memories of the war years.
As memories surfaced throughout the event, a reflective atmosphere filled the home, creating meaningful moments of connection between residents, relatives, and staff.
