Residents at The Mill House Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently welcomed a very special guest as Ronald from Gym in Motion visited for an engaging and uplifting fitness session held in the home’s beautiful conservatory.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the garden views, residents gathered for a unique exercise experience that combined movement, games, and laughter in a calm and motivating environment. Ronald quickly became a firm favourite, creating a safe and supportive space where everyone felt comfortable to participate, ask questions, and try something new.
The session featured five rounds of bingo woven between tailored exercise activities, with each round focusing on a different skill including mobility, balance, and hand-eye coordination. One of the standout activities involved using soft spiked massage balls to improve circulation, with residents rolling them along their arms and shoulders. The activity proved both deeply relaxing and exciting as many experienced this type of exercise for the first time.
Residents thoroughly enjoyed the experience, sharing their enthusiasm afterwards with comments including:
“I had such fun, will Gym in Motion visit us again?”
“Feeling so stretched out and relaxed now!”
“What a lovely gentleman.”
“Such great music, he played all my favourites – it took me back.”
The session struck the perfect balance between gentle exercise and friendly competition, with bingo providing a welcome cool-down period between activities. This creative structure helped residents remain focused, engaged, and energised throughout.
One of the day’s highlights came towards the end of the session when residents began experimenting with beanbags, balancing them on their heads and inventing their own catching games. Ronald was delighted by their creativity and quickly joined in, filling the room with laughter and playful energy.
This visit was especially meaningful as it introduced residents to a new member of the local community. Ronald’s expert knowledge, patience, and encouragement left everyone feeling accomplished and proud of what they had achieved.
The idea came about after The Mill House received information about Gym in Motion through the post. Recognising the importance of keeping exercise fresh and engaging, the team were excited to invite in a specialist to complement the home’s regular fitness activities.
