Crowstone House Brings Care Teams Together for Fun-Filled Basketball Event

The team from Crowstone House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, came together with care staff from homes across the surrounding areas for a one-day basketball league event, for a day of community engagement and fun.

Hosted at St Bernard’s High School in Southend, the event saw four teams made up of carers from the Basildon, Southend and Grays areas take part. The Crowstone House team played alongside team members from Stafford Hall Care Home and Rosedale Court, giving everyone the opportunity to meet each other and enjoy some friendly competition.

The event was open to the public and local community, with a number of local shops and community care agencies sponsoring the day.

Residents from Crowstone House attended to cheer on the teams and quickly became involved in the excitement. The residents were smiling, engaging with the event and having lots of fun. One Crowstone House resident said, “I want to go again – can we do another event like this?”

The basketball also sparked a new interest among the residents, with one resident commenting that they had previously only been interested in football but now had a bigger interest in basketball. Staff were equally pleased to see residents enjoying themselves, with Joseph, home manager, saying how lovely it was to see the residents having such a great time and smiling so much.

Events like the basketball game are a fantastic opportunity to bring the Runwood Homes care teams, residents, and the community together. With five teams taking part, strong community engagement and plenty of support from residents, staff and attendees, the day was a great success. Planning for the next basketball event is already set to get underway!
