Evelyn May House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, supported resident Colin in fulfilling his long-held wish to return to Hong Kong and reunite with his wife after nine months living at the home.
Since moving to Evelyn May House, Colin had been looking forward to the opportunity to return to Hong Kong and be with his wife once again. With support from his social worker, Essex County Council and the team at Evelyn May House, plans were put in place to help make his wish a reality.
On 21 September 2026, Colin left Evelyn May House to begin his journey home and reunite with his wife.
Colin shared his feelings about the occasion, saying: “As lovely as it’s been staying at Evelyn May, I’ve been waiting for this moment and looking forward to seeing my wife again.”
Essex County Council said: “This was a real example of teamwork. Colin’s reunion with his wife was not the result of any one person’s efforts but the collective commitment, compassion and professionalism of many.”
Jo Robbin-Coker, Home Manager, said: “We were pleased to fulfil Colin’s wishes with the support of his social worker and the Essex County Council team.”
The support provided by everyone involved meant Colin could return to Hong Kong and begin the next chapter of his life alongside his wife, exactly as he had hoped.
For the team at Evelyn May House, one of the most memorable moments was seeing the smile on Colin’s face when he was told that he would be going home.
