Residents and staff from Windmill House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, came together for a five-mile Memory Walk in Wymondham, to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Organised to mark World Alzheimer’s Month, the special event brought residents, staff and families from Windmill House together with the wider Wymondham community in support of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Dressed in blue to show their support, participants proudly wore beautiful handmade forget-me-not crochet brooches, created by Windmill House volunteer Jackie. The thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to the occasion, with the forget-me-not serving as a poignant symbol of awareness and solidarity.
One of the most memorable moments of the day came when walkers joined a local Zumba class, led by a resident’s daughter, for a joyful dance to the ABBA classic Dancing Queen.
The walk also received an incredible response from the Wymondham community, with local people showing their encouragement through generous donations, friendly waves and supportive car horns as participants made their way along the route.
Maria, Home Manager of Windmill House, expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make the event such a success:
“We did it again- a huge well done and thank you to everyone who took part in our memory walk, whether you walked alongside us, joined us in your thoughts, or supported us with a donation. Your kindness, support and generosity mean so much to us. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Wymondham community for coming together and supporting us once again. Together, we’re making a difference, and we couldn’t do it without you!’
Resident Gilly also reflected on the special day, praising the kindness of fellow participants and the overwhelming support from the local community:
“It was an enjoyable walk, many thanks to two lovely gentleman who bravely pushed me in my wheelchair. The response from the community was wonderful with people beeping in their cars and their generosity donating to Alzheimer’s.”
Events like these are at the heart of life at Windmill House, combining meaningful fundraising for a charity close to everyone’s hearts, strengthen community connections and bring people together.
