A resident at Elizabeth House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, enjoyed a special trip to a local pet shop to choose a new fish for the home’s aquarium.
When a fish tank was donated to Elizabeth House, resident Susan expressed her wish to add more fish. Keen to make this happen, Lifestyle Lead Jess arranged a trip to a local pet shop, inviting Susan, her husband and fellow residents to join the outing and choose a new fish for the tank.
The Elizabeth House residents enjoyed a wonderful day out together, exploring the pet shop and choosing a new addition for their aquarium. The highlight of the trip was Susan selecting an angelfish of her own. She was drawn to the fish because of its beautiful appearance and was delighted when it was brought back to the home and introduced to the tank.
Since the trip, the fish have become a special part of Susan’s daily routine. She looks forward to visiting the aquarium every day, checking on the fish and making sure they are doing well.
Resident of Elizabeth House, Susan, said: “When I see them, they make me very happy. The first thing I say to my husband when he comes to see me is, ‘Can we go and see the fish!’”
The experience highlights the importance of supporting the Elizabeth House residents to enjoy the activities and interests that mean the most to them.
Elizabeth House’s trips out into the local community are an important part of supporting residents’ overall wellbeing and can help help boost confidence, create lasting memories and give residents something special to look forward to.
