In a touching tribute to their late father, Karen Marrable and Tracey Grant, daughters of Denis Grant, have established the beginnings of a memorial orchard at Eastham Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group.
The sisters purchased and arranged for three fruit trees to be planted in the care home’s garden, creating a lasting legacy in Denis’s memory. The planting ceremony was attended by Eastham staff, residents, and members of the local jazz club, all gathering to honour Denis’s life and love of community.
During the heartfelt event, some of Denis’s ashes were scattered among the trees, and a commemorative plaque was unveiled, bearing the inscription:
“Denis always shared the fruits of life.”
The trees have been planted on the hill at Eastham Care Home, where they will flourish overlooking the home’s beautiful grounds, providing beauty, shade, and fresh fruit for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come. The orchard will serve as a living memorial, a place of reflection and remembrance, and a fitting tribute to a man remembered for his generous spirit and love of life.
The atmosphere during the event was both happy and thoughtful, as attendees shared memories and celebrated Denis’s lasting impact on the community. The standout moment came as the family planted the first trees, symbolising new life and enduring love.
Commenting on the event,
Karolyn Sisto, Home Manager at Eastham Care Home, said:
“We are deeply moved by this beautiful gesture from Denis’s family. The orchard will stand as a meaningful reminder of his kindness and the joy he brought to everyone here at Eastham.”
