Residents, families, day centre clients and staff came together at Highview Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, on 22nd May for a joyful and heartfelt coffee morning held in support of Dementia UK as part of Dementia Awareness Week.

The event, organised by the home’s Lifestyle Coordinator following an initiative inspired by Dementia UK fundraising packs, saw residents and colleagues prepare together in advance by baking a selection of homemade treats. The following day, the home was filled with the aroma of fresh cakes and the sound of conversation as residents, families, and members of the neighbouring day centre gathered to take part.

The sunny weather allowed most of the activities to take place outdoors, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where guests enjoyed coffee, cake and refreshing mocktails while socialising and celebrating together.

The day was further enhanced by live entertainment from “Just Dave,” whose music brought residents and visitors to their feet. Dancing, singing and laughter filled the garden, with residents including Jean, Jillian and Maureen particularly enjoying the opportunity to dance in the sunshine.

Jean, a resident at Highview Lodge Care Home, said: “It’s a perfect day for it,” adding how much she enjoyed seeing Dave perform. She also delighted in a moment where she joined him on stage and was even given the chance to play guitar.

The event, supported by residents, families and day centre guests, successfully raised funds for Dementia UK while also highlighting the importance of community connection and wellbeing during Dementia Awareness Week.

Deputy Manager Hanna played a key role in bringing the idea to life after recognising Dementia UK’s call for coffee morning events, ensuring Highview Lodge Care Home could contribute meaningfully to the national campaign.

The atmosphere throughout the day was described as lively, fun and full of life, with music, dancing, sweet treats and shared laughter creating a truly special occasion for all involved.
