Residents and staff at Jubilee Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, showed determination as they successfully completed a sponsored wheelchair push to Hucknall and back on 13 May 2026, raising funds for residents’ activities and events.
The fundraising challenge was organised following discussions during a residents’ meeting, giving residents the opportunity to take an active role in fundraising while enjoying time outdoors together.
Despite heavy rain forcing the group to turn back during the morning, spirits remained high. When the weather eased later in the day, a smaller but determined group set off once again to complete the route.
Speaking about the day, residents Brenda and Tony said:
“We weren’t sure we’d manage it after having to turn back, but we so much wanted to set off again. It felt great and worth every push having a natter on the way. The group was smaller, but we kept each other going along the way. Getting to Hucknall and back made it all worthwhile!”
So far, the sponsored wheelchair push has raised £275 for the residents’ fund.
Deborah, Lifestyle Coordinator at Jubilee Court, said:
“These walks are important because they get residents involved in the fundraising itself, not just as recipients. It gives them a shared goal, time outdoors, and a real sense of achievement and purpose.”
One of the standout moments of the day was seeing two residents determined to continue despite the weather, sharing laughs and encouraging one another throughout the journey. The atmosphere was filled with team spirit, positivity, and cheering each other on every step of the way.
