Laureate Court care home will be launching new dementia café during care home open week

Laureate Court care home in Rotherham is excited to be launching their first ever Dementia Café during Care Home Open Week, on Monday the 26th of June 2023.

From the 26th of June, Laureate Court will become the second care home in the community to host the café, which will take place every other Monday.

The team at Laureate Court hope to welcome the wider community and establish the home as a support hub for those in Rotherham who are living or know someone living with dementia.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently around 900,000 people with dementia in the UK. This number is expected to rise to over one million people with dementia in the UK by 2025 and nearly 1.6 million in 2040.

A dementia café provides a safe space free from judgement where you can go for a cup of tea and a chat with either experienced professionals who understand dementia, or with others in a similar position.

The café can also provide advice and information for someone caring for a loved one with dementia, as supporting family members and carers are an important function of the cafés.

The opening will be attended by the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Robert Taylor, along with entertainment from a local band, the Ukes of Hazzard. In attendance will be children from Lime Tree Nursery, as well as a variety of refreshments and activities on the day.

Lisa Facer, Home Manager at Laureate Court Care Home, said: “We have launched the Dementia Café as we are keen to support and engage with the local community and promote our care home whilst raising awareness of the effects of dementia. The dementia café will be a safe space to offer a support mechanism for people affected who can come together and share their ideas and experiences to support one another.”
