Residents from Liberty House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a wonderful day out to Cusworth Hall Museum as part of celebrations for National Museum Day on 18 May 2026.
The trip, organised by the Lifestyle Coordinators, gave residents the opportunity to explore the historic hall, view fascinating artefacts, and watch nostalgic black and white footage showcasing the history of Doncaster. The visit concluded with lunch and refreshments at the popular Butler’s Tea Room café.
The outing sparked many happy memories for residents, particularly while viewing vintage household items, furniture, and toys that reminded them of their childhoods and family life.
Ann, Resident at Liberty House, said:
“This was my first outing at Liberty House and I loved every minute of it. I learned a lot about Cusworth Hall and it was a beautiful place to visit.”
Paul, Resident at Liberty House, said:
“I have never been to Cusworth Hall before and it was a beautiful place to visit. I’m looking forward to visiting again.”
David, Resident at Liberty House, said:
“I really enjoyed watching the old black and white video about Doncaster. It was very interesting and seeing all the old mining things brought memories back of my dad who used to work in the pits.”
The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with laughter, conversation, and wonder as residents explored the grand surroundings and shared stories inspired by the exhibits.
Trips such as these are an important part of life at Liberty House, encouraging social interaction, lifelong learning, and meaningful reminiscence experiences for residents.
