Residents and staff at Liberty House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, enjoyed an exciting and memorable experience when Reptile Rendezvous, reptile company, visited the home, bringing along a fascinating collection of reptiles and small animals for everyone to discover.
From snakes and spiders to adorable furry visitors, including a meerkat and a skunk, there was plenty to see and learn about. The visit gave Liberty House residents the chance to hold and interact with them up close.
Throughout the visit, Liberty House residents and staff asked questions, discovered interesting facts about the animals and learned more about their unique characteristics. The session sparked plenty of curiosity and conversation, creating an engaging experience for everyone involved.
One of the biggest highlights was seeing Liberty House residents and staff face their fears and build their confidence by getting closer to some of the animals. For some, this meant overcoming years of apprehension and discovering that the experience was far more enjoyable than they had imagined.
Care Assistant at Liberty House, Precious, shared her experience, saying: “I have always been scared of snakes, but I overcame my fear and actually held one. I was so happy that I did it.”
Lifestyle team member Kelley also praised the visit, saying: “All the reptiles and small animals were amazing. It was wonderful to see all the residents engaging with them all, and they were a lot braver than me when it came to the tarantula.”
Resident of Liberty House, Margaret, was equally delighted by the opportunity, explaining: “I have only ever seen reptiles on the TV and never in real life, so to not only see them but hold them was amazing. My favourite was the meerkat.”
Experiences at Liberty House, like the visit from Reptile Rendezvous are so important for residents as they encourage curiosity and build confidence and give residents something exciting to share with one another.
