Loganberry Lodge Residents Embrace Eco-Friendly Gardening Initiative

Loganberry Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was generously donated a variety of vegetable seeds by local garden centre Barn Plants.

Lifestyle Coordinator Sam collected the seeds from Barn Plants Garden Centre and on Friday 28th March, the seeds were planted in Loganberry Lodge’s cosy café as part of their ongoing efforts to become more environmentally conscious. In a creative and eco-friendly initiative, the seeds were placed in recycled milk cartons, which were turned into mini greenhouses.

The event was enjoyed by residents from all units, Lifestyle Coordinators Charley and Sam, and Colchester Institute work placement student Lily, all working together to make the initiative a success.

Planting seeds and nurturing them to grow provides residents with a sense of excitement, pride, and accomplishment. For the residents of Loganberry Lodge, knowing they played an important part in growing their own vegetables brings a great sense of fulfilment. Dawn, a resident at Loganberry Lodge, commented “It was lovely spending time getting to know some new people and it was really kind of the garden centre to donate us the seeds.”

The idea for the project came after Loganberry Lodge learned about Barn Plants’ donation of seeds via social media, which led to the decision to ask residents if they would like to try planting their own vegetables this year.

The atmosphere during the event was warm and relaxed, filled with laughter and a true sense of community as everyone worked together to plant the seeds.
