Residents, relatives and the wellbeing team from Maun View Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a minibus trip to Dobbies Garden Centre in Barlborough on Friday 5 June 2026.
The outing, which is part of Maun View Care Home’s regular programme of community excursions, gave residents and their loved ones the opportunity to spend quality time together outside the home. The group explored the garden centre, admired the flowers and plants, watched the fish in the tanks and enjoyed the outdoor displays featuring statues and water fountains. The visit concluded with tea, lattes and strawberry and raspberry scones in the café.
Lucy, Lifestyle Coordinator, said: “It was lovely to visit somewhere new and be able to take relatives as well as residents out on the mini bus trip. It is a beautiful garden centre with lots to look at and do, and the residents and relatives that joined us loved it.”
Philip, husband of a new resident, added: “It has been the first time in two years that my wife and I have been out together. It was a wonderful outing and we were looked after so well.”
A few days after the trip, Philip brought a handmade card to Maun View featuring a hand-painted illustration inspired by the visit to Dobbies. The heartfelt gesture was warmly received by staff and residents.
Maun View Care Home says trips like these are an important part of helping residents maintain relationships and create new memories with family and friends. Relatives often comment that outings provide an opportunity to focus on enjoying time together, rather than the caring responsibilities they may have previously undertaken.
The standout moment of the day was seeing residents and relatives socialising, laughing and enjoying each other’s company outside the home environment.
