Residents and staff at Crowstone House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, have been making the most of the recent warm weather by embracing outdoor activities and exploring self-sufficiency through gardening.
With the arrival of sunnier days, the home’s beautiful garden has truly come into its own, providing the perfect opportunity for residents to spend more time outdoors and reconnect with nature. As part of this initiative, residents have been busy planting a variety of vegetables in the raised garden beds, including a generous donation of tomato plants.
The gardening project has been a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get involved, encouraging residents to enjoy the fresh air, soak up some much-needed sunshine, and experience the therapeutic benefits of nurturing plants and watching them grow.
To gather inspiration for the project, residents recently enjoyed a trip to a local garden centre, where they explored ideas for what they could cultivate in the garden. Alongside the tomato plants, the garden is now home to runner beans, marrows, strawberries, and spring onions.
Everyone is excited to enjoy the fruits of their labour over the coming months, with plans to use the homegrown produce for baking activities and to create treats to sell at the upcoming Summer BBQ Fete.
The much-anticipated Mardi Gras-themed Summer BBQ Fete will take place on 18th July, with doors open from 11:00am to 4:00pm. The event is open to all and promises a fun-filled day for the whole family, including games for children on the lawn.
Crowstone House would also warmly welcome donations for the tombola stall. Anyone wishing to contribute or offer assistance on the day is encouraged to get in touch by contacting Victoria at Crowstone House.
The team is looking forward to celebrating with the local community and sharing a fantastic summer event with all who attend.
