Leatherland Lodge care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, is proud to celebrate the remarkable journey of Sarah, whose dedication, resilience, and determination have made her an invaluable and inspiring member of the team.

Sarah’s remarkable journey began when she stepped forward to support the kitchen during a difficult period following the chef’s illness. Taking on such responsibility was no small task, but Sarah rose to the challenge with determination and positivity.

From learning portion control, allergy management, menu planning, food preparation, ordering processes, and complex IDDSI documentation, to navigating inspections and feedback, the role demanded a steep learning curve. Despite the challenges along the way, Sarah never gave up. Instead, she embraced every opportunity to learn, adapt, and improve with determination and positivity.

Over time, Sarah’s natural talent and passion for catering became clear. She delighted residents with a wonderful Christmas dinner and continued to grow in confidence and skill with each passing day.

When the chef later resigned, Sarah was offered the role, and she has gone from strength to strength ever since. From baking delicious cakes and preparing meals she had never encountered before, to creating hydration dishes for residents and expertly following specialised IDDSI menus, Sarah continues to exceed expectations.

Alongside her team, Sarah has also proudly maintained Leatherland Lodge’s 5-star Environmental Health inspection rating, reflecting an unwavering commitment to excellence, safety, and quality within the kitchen.

Sarah’s hard work and dedication were further recognised in May when she was invited to attend an inspiring IDDSI training day at Brakes UK Head Office, joining Head Chefs from across the group at the Innovation Kitchen. Hosted by Brakes UK and supported by Healthcare Development Chef James Cotton, the event focused on strengthening knowledge, consistency, and best practice in IDDSI dining, a significant achievement and testament to how far Sarah has come.

To make the month even more special, Sarah, alongside Chelsie, was awarded Employees of the Month for May, a well-deserved recognition of their outstanding contributions. Both are now enrolling onto their Level 3 qualification, further investing in their professional development and future careers.

Sarah’s journey is a powerful reminder that with hard work, determination, and heart, anything is possible. Leatherland Lodge is incredibly proud of Sarah and deeply grateful for the commitment, care, and passion she brings to residents and colleagues every single day.974ad48b bff6 4e06 9df8 bfc93b3c6ed5
