Residents, families, staff and members of the local community came together at Windmill House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, on 18 June to celebrate International Picnic Day alongside the home’s Open Day, enjoying a fun-filled afternoon of live entertainment, delicious food and beautiful summer weather.
The home’s gardens provided the perfect setting for the celebration, where an Elvis tribute performer entertained guests with classic hits that had everyone clapping, singing and dancing. One of the day’s most special moments came when Elvis invited residents to join in the singing, creating smiles for all in attendance.
Guests also enjoyed a spectacular picnic prepared by Head Chef Chris and Kitchen Assistant Skye, featuring a selection of freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, sausage rolls, cheese straws, salads, vegetable spring rolls and an array of delicious desserts.
The event brought together residents, relatives, staff and members of the wider community, highlighting the importance of spending quality time outdoors and creating opportunities for meaningful social interaction.
Resident family members praised the event and the positive atmosphere it created.
SA, daughter of a resident, said:
“I was lucky enough to be there this morning when Elvis was in the building. His interaction with the residents was so lovely to see, with lots of clapping, singing, dancing and kisses too. The weather was so lovely. Well done to everyone who helped bring this event together.”
KU, daughter of a resident, added:
“It looks like a great time was had by all and it was perfect to be out enjoying the good weather.”
The celebration reflected Windmill House’s commitment to creating engaging experiences that promote wellbeing, encourage social connection and make the most of every opportunity to enjoy life together.
