Leatherland Lodge care home, part of Runwood Homes Group, teamed up with the Knight of Aveley Pub to host a successful Summer Fete on the 24th of August 2024. The event that was organised by Kerry Cooper, Home Manager at Leatherland Lodge, and Kirsty Nicholls, Landlady of the Knight of Aveley Pub, brought together families, residents, and community members for a day of fun, connection, and support.
Kerry, Home manager, Sandra, Deputy Manager and Lifestyle Coordinators worked closely with the Knight of Aveley team and created a lively and welcoming atmosphere. The event was more than just a festive gathering—it was a powerful platform to promote Alzheimer’s and dementia awareness within the community, a cause that both Leatherland Lodge and the Knight of Aveley Pub passionately support.
The Summer Fete successfully raised funds to enhance the lives of residents at Leatherland Lodge, showcasing the deep bond between the care home and its local community. The event was met with heartfelt praise from family members of the residents, who shared their appreciation for the care provided by Kerry Cooper and her team.
One attendee, the daughter of a resident, expressed her gratitude: “I had an amazing time with my family and dad, who is a resident of Leatherland Lodge. The home is fantastic—I wouldn’t want my dad to be anywhere else. The staff are brilliant with all the residents.”
A son of another resident commented on the dedication of the Leatherland Lodge staff: “Kerry and Sandra are amazing at what they do with all the residents. I couldn’t wish for a better home for my mum. Kerry and Sandra always involve family members in everything, including events inside and outside of the home.”
Even those who have lost loved ones continue to stay connected with the home. One former family member shared, “My father was a resident who sadly passed away, but I still love to get involved with events. Leatherland Lodge is such a special place—you just can’t keep away. The staff are always welcoming, and I couldn’t have wished for a better home for my dad.”
