Loganberry Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is thrilled to share the success of a recent Aqua Fit experience, made possible through the private hire of a local swimming pool. Held on 18 November 2025, the session offered residents a safe, low-impact and energising opportunity to enjoy movement in the water, an activity many had not experienced in years.
Lifestyle Coordinator, Naomi, who organised the session, explained that the idea came from conversations with residents about their life histories.
“Several residents shared how much they used to love swimming,” Naomi said. “So I researched local pools we could hire, and we’re now able to offer small monthly sessions for our residents.”
The outing brought together three residents, two carers, and one lifestyle coordinator, who all enjoyed moving through the water, swimming, laughing and even singing throughout the session.
Residents shared their excitement and gratitude after taking part:
- “This is the first time I’ve been in a swimming pool.” – Terrance (Resident)
- “I’ve had such a great time, I’m so grateful I could come.” – Colin (Resident)
- “I love being in the water. I didn’t think I’d get an opportunity to go swimming again, let alone so late in life.” – Kevin (Resident)
Water exercise provides an ideal form of movement for older adults, offering gentle, low-impact activity that supports strength, mobility, and joint health. Group water classes also bring social connection, reduce feelings of isolation, and boost mood and overall wellbeing, making experiences like this especially valuable.
The atmosphere on the day was described as fun, carefree and filled with singing and laughter, a heartwarming reminder of the joy that meaningful activities can bring.
Loganberry Lodge looks forward to continuing these monthly sessions and providing residents with enriching, confidence-boosting experiences that support both physical and emotional wellbeing.
