Elizabeth House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is proud to share a heartwarming moment from its “Make a Wish Come True” initiative, as resident Doreen enjoyed a truly unforgettable day fulfilling a long-held personal wish.
The special outing took place on 15 January 2026, after Doreen shared her desire to go ice skating, an activity she fondly remembered enjoying in the past and had not experienced for many years. Her wish was brought to life with a visit to the Chelmsford Riverside Leisure Centre, where she was able to return to the ice and reconnect with a much-loved memory.
The experience was supported by Tracy, Wellbeing Lead, Jess, Wellbeing, and Gus, Mini Driver, who ensured the day was safe, joyful, and memorable for everyone involved.
Commenting on the occasion, Danielle, Receptionist at Elizabeth House, said the initiative reflects the home’s commitment to creating meaningful, personalised experiences for residents.
Resident Doreen shared her joy, saying:
“It was the best day and I had so much fun — you made my wish come true.”
The day was filled with laughter, smiles, and excitement, creating a truly uplifting atmosphere for all involved. One of the most touching highlights was seeing the huge smile on Doreen’s face as she was gently pushed around the ice rink, a moment that brought happiness to everyone present.
This initiative is especially important for people living with dementia, as familiar activities from earlier life can trigger positive memories and emotions, supporting emotional wellbeing and a sense of identity.
The idea forms part of Elizabeth House’s wider commitment, led by the wellbeing team, to grant as many resident wishes as possible, ensuring each person feels valued, heard, and celebrated as an individual.
Elizabeth House continues to focus on creating meaningful moments that promote happiness, dignity, connection, and wellbeing for every resident.
