The ovens have been working overtime at Maun View Care Home and across the Runwood Homes group as residents come together to celebrate World Baking Day on the 17th of May. Throughout the month of May, the home has been abuzz with the aroma of freshly baked goods as residents showcase their culinary talents and indulge in the joy of baking.

As part of the home’s dynamic activity programme, residents from all corners of Maun View have been actively participating in a variety of baking activities. From kneading dough to decorating cakes, the residents have immersed themselves in the art of baking, finding immense pleasure and fulfilment in the process.

Baking is not just about creating delicious treats; it’s about creating moments of joy and connection. “We love baking here at Maun View and for the month of May we have had an increased presence of baking on the activity planner as a nod to ‘World Baking Day’ on 17th May. Baking is so rewarding and not only provides engaging and stimulating activity, but also has the added benefit of creating something delicious for residents to enjoy afterwards,” says Sam Bernard, Home Manager at Maun View.

Research has shown that baking has numerous benefits for older adults, including improving mental health, enhancing dexterity, and aiding in the retention of manual skills. Moreover, for residents living with dementia, baking provides a valuable opportunity for reminiscence and sensory stimulation, fostering a sense of nostalgia and comfort.

At Maun View, baking isn’t just an activity; it’s a cherished tradition that brings residents together, creating lasting memories and a sense of community. Whether it’s sharing stories from the past or delighting in the taste of freshly baked treats, every moment spent in the kitchen is filled with warmth and laughter.
