Dorothy at Orchard Blythe care home reaches 100 years old

Orchard Blythe care home in Coleshill celebrated a milestone event on 7th of January 2024, as one of its cherished residents, Dorothy Preen, marked her 100th birthday.

The occasion was marked by a small, intimate celebration featuring photos, a delightful cake, and beautiful flowers, exactly as requested by Dorothy herself, who preferred a low-key affair.

Dorothy Preen, a resident at Orchard Blythe for five years, originally hailing from Water Orton, has been an integral part of the community. Her remarkable life journey includes employment at Dunlop until her marriage to her husband Richard, with whom she enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. The couple shared a passion for dancing and socializing, often embarking on holidays to Weston and Cornwall. Despite their love for travel, Dorothy never took a flight.

Dorothy has created lasting memories at Orchard Blythe, surrounded by a circle of friends. She finds joy in reading, playing bingo, and tending to her garden. Her love for day trips, enjoying a pub meal and a bit of shopping, reflects her vibrant spirit. To celebrate her centenary, Dorothy opted for a modest celebration, capturing the day with numerous photos that she plans to share with family and friends around the globe.

Michelle, Wellbeing Lead at Orchard Blythe, said: “Dot had a very quiet but memorable day and was glad to celebrate with the Orchard Blythe community.”

Hayley Ford, Manager at Orchard Blythe, said: “It was a lovely day for all and I cannot thank the team enough for organizing such a memorable occasion for Dot.”

Debbie Bott, Deputy Manager, added: “It was a privilege to celebrate Dot’s 100th birthday with her.”

Rita Mountford, a fellow resident, affectionately stated: “Dot is a dear friend; happy 100th birthday!”
