Residents Enjoy Autumn Colour Spectacular Outdoor Tree Wellbeing Outing in Thetford Country Park with a Picnic

Residents of Windmill House, part of the Runwood Homes group, had the opportunity to enjoy a rejuvenating outing to Thetford Forest on the 14th of November, where they immersed themselves in the stunning autumn scenery. Travelling in the comfort of Windmill House’s minibus, the group ventured to St. Helen’s Picnic Area, located at the scenic Norfolk-Suffolk border. The picturesque location provided breathtaking views of golden deciduous trees, the tranquil river Ouse, and a charming wooden bridge, which provided the perfect setting for a game of Pooh Sticks.

The outing allowed residents to connect with nature, breathe in the fresh autumn air, and enjoy the sensory experience of autumn’s changing colours. They wandered through the forest, taking in the sights and sounds, crunching through fallen leaves, and exploring a nearby historic church. The experience provided a refreshing combination of physical activity, mental stimulation, and emotional wellbeing.

One of the highlights of the day was an open-air picnic where residents, their families, volunteers, and staff gathered to enjoy delicious food and great company. The outing offered a meaningful opportunity for connection with both nature and the local community, with friendly members of the public and their dogs adding to the warm atmosphere.

The outing received positive feedback from members of the public. A by-passer, who was walking his two poodles in the forest, stopped to comment on the group’s activity.

“It’s so lovely to see you folks out here, enjoying this beautiful scenery,” he said.

A resident also shared their appreciation, saying, “Absolutely beautiful place; well done for choosing such a lovely spot for today’s trip.”

Windmill House is committed to supporting the wellbeing of its residents by offering a variety of outdoor and sensory experiences that encourage physical activity, promote mental health, and foster community connection. The recent outing to Thetford Forest is just one example of how the facility strives to provide exceptional care and enhance the quality of life for all its residents.
