On 11th November 2024, Rose House, part of the Runwood Homes group, had the honour of attending a special Remembrance Day event at Southfield Primary School. This invitation allowed the residents to join in commemorating the invaluable contributions of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women who served in the two World Wars.
The residents of Rose House were warmly welcomed at Southfield Primary to witness a moving assembly dedicated to Remembrance. The event also featured a touching display of poppies created by the children, highlighting their own tribute to those who gave so much for our freedom.
Beyond the assembly, the Rose House residents had the opportunity to engage with the schoolchildren, sharing stories from their own lives and reflecting on the importance of remembrance. These intergenerational connections are deeply meaningful, offering both the older and younger generations a chance to learn from one another, fostering compassion, understanding, and a shared sense of purpose.
Lifestyle Co-Ordinator at Rose House, Louise Bancroft shared her thoughts on the experience:
“The residents had such a wonderful time at the school and enjoyed every moment shared with the children both during and after the assembly. Our time spent with Southfield Primary, whether it be at the school or during their visit to Rose House, are always of such benefit, and we look forward to sharing time with them again in the future.”
The visit highlights the significance of building relationships between generations. For the residents of Rose House, these moments offer a sense of joyful freedom and connection, while for the children, they gain valuable life experiences and develop a deeper appreciation for history and the sacrifices made by previous generations.
Rose House Care Home remains committed to creating opportunities for residents to engage with the community and cherish these intergenerational moments.
