Residents at Four Acres Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a creative and uplifting art class on 15th January led by one of their own residents, Lional, a talented artist with a passion for flower art. The session brought residents together to learn new skills, socialise, and celebrate the importance of self-expression through art.
Diane from the Lifestyle team shared the inspiration behind the event: “Lional has always been keen on artwork and is a brilliant artist. He used to live on a canal boat and painted beautiful flower designs on them. When he expressed an interest in teaching art to the other residents, I thought it was a fantastic idea and organised a class for him to lead.”
The art class was a resounding success, with participants learning to draw roses under Lional’s guidance. The atmosphere was described as “amazing,” with residents enthusiastically engaging in the activity and enjoying the opportunity to develop their artistic skills.
At Four Acres, encouraging residents to maintain and share their talents is a core part of the care home’s philosophy. Diane emphasised, “Here at Four Acres, we encourage all residents to carry on with their skills while they stay with us.”
A standout moment of the day was seeing Lional step confidently into his role as a teacher. “It was incredible to see him come out of his shell and lead the class,” Diane noted.
Events like this highlight the importance of fostering creativity and community within care homes. By providing opportunities for residents to share their passions, Four Acres continues to create an environment where individuals feel valued and supported.
The success of the art class has inspired plans for more creative sessions in the future, ensuring that residents continue to enjoy opportunities to learn, connect, and thrive.
