Nicolas, the Home Manager at Frank Foster House, part of the Runwood Homes group, recently participated in a collaborative research initiative with King’s College, aimed at exploring the role of care homes in providing long-term care. The research focused on how NHS and primary care services work together with care homes to support the elderly. Key areas of study included integrated service models, end-of-life care, dementia care, and continence support for residents.
The research highlights the importance of collaboration between care homes and universities to elevate the quality of care provided to older people. The findings aim to ensure that the voices of residents are heard and incorporated into the improvement of care practices. This partnership also seeks to change the perception of care homes and their role in healthcare.
Throughout the project, Nicolas worked closely with the research team from King’s College, as well as care home staff and university representatives, sharing valuable insights into the unique challenges faced by care homes. His involvement in this research emphasises the need for care homes to be recognised as key partners in healthcare, especially in areas like dementia care and end-of-life support.
The atmosphere during the event was positive and cooperative, with a shared commitment to improving the lives of those living in care homes. The research is an important step forward in shaping a better future for the elderly population, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve.
