On Monday 5th May, Frank Foster House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, had the pleasure of hosting a special event aimed at enhancing the well-being of its residents through the benefits of animal therapy.
Residents enjoyed a visit from some friendly goats, offering a perfect opportunity for residents to engage in a soothing and joyful experience that helped promote both their mental and emotional health.
Jacqueline, one of the residents at Frank Foster House, shared her excitement, saying, “I enjoyed seeing the goats. My grandmother used to have a farm in the past,” reflecting on the joy that animal therapy can bring, especially for those with nostalgic memories of past experiences. The visit from the goats allowed the residents to form connections not only with the animals but also with one another as they bonded over the shared experience.
The idea for the event came about after residents expressed a great deal of enjoyment during past visits with animals, leading the team to explore the possibility of regular pet therapy visits. With its proven ability to enhance the quality of life, pet therapy is a key part of the home’s ongoing commitment to supporting residents’ emotional health.
The event proved to be a heartwarming success, with everyone involved enjoying the therapeutic and calming effects of animal interaction. It’s a reminder of how small, thoughtful initiatives like pet therapy can make a lasting impact on residents’ lives.
