Residents, families, and staff at Longview Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together on Thursday 9th May to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a vibrant garden street party filled with music, laughter, and remembrance.
The garden was beautifully decorated with Union Jack bunting, setting the scene for an afternoon of celebration and reflection. The highlight of the event was a live performance by the talented Tracey Lea, who captivated the audience with wartime songs that had everyone dancing and singing along.
To enhance the authentic street party experience, a buffet-style afternoon tea was served, offering residents and guests the opportunity to enjoy delicious treats together in the sunshine.
Family member Sam praised the event, commenting, “Thank you for a lovely afternoon. What a wonderful atmosphere, and Tracey Lea was a fantastic singer.”
Longview‘s Home Manager, Vivian Laurent, added, “It was a lovely day – we all really enjoyed it.”
A standout moment came when all the male staff members were called upon to stand up and act as aeroplanes during the song ‘Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines’—a moment that had everyone laughing and added a light-hearted touch to a meaningful day.
The event was a true testament to community spirit, with everyone coming together to celebrate, remember, and share in the joy of the occasion.
