Residents from Elizabeth House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, were treated to a memorable outing to Southend Pier, with a scenic ride on the famous Pier Train. The trip offered a refreshing change of scenery while promoting engagement and social connection.
The group began their day with a stroll along the pier, followed by a ride on the train. As the train glided over the sea, residents enjoyed watching the Southend shoreline. Once at the end of the pier, they explored various attractions, including quirky funhouse mirrors that made everyone laugh.
Danielle McGuinness, Receptionist at Elizabeth House shared:
“Husband and wife Marion and Brian both said it was the most wonderful day they have had together in a long time.”
One of the highlights was when resident Valorie rang the old emergency bell, a simple activity that made everyone smile.
This trip was both adventurous and exciting. Events like these play a crucial role in reducing social isolation and allows residents to experience new environments.
