Rosedale Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was filled with laughter and joy on Monday 28th July when sisters Elodie and Isabel Pitman from The Grove School in Harpenden spent a memorable day with residents, staff, and family members.
The visit offered a wonderful opportunity for the younger and older generations to connect and share experiences. The sisters joined the activities team to learn about life in a care home and actively participate in daily activities alongside the residents.
Highlights of the day included a delightful hairdressing session where generations came together to create beautiful plaits, a scenic Runwood Ramblers walk around the grounds, and a sensory herb-guessing activity in the vegetable garden. The afternoon was capped off with a special Cooking Club session and a creative Art Club with colouring activities.
Louise Healy, Activities Coordinator at Rosedale Court, said, “It is very important for generations to interact, as not only do our younger generation benefit from developing skills, the older generation enjoy showing them how to do things.”
Residents also expressed their delight in the day’s events, with resident Lilian sharing, “It’s lovely to have the children in and great fun doing hairdressing with them.” Jean added, “They are a joy to have here with us for the day.”
The idea for this special visit came about after Louise was contacted by the girls’ mother, Victoria Pitman, who wanted to arrange an intergenerational experience that would benefit both the children and the residents.
The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with caring, fun, laughter, and teamwork, truly a celebration of community and connection.
