Ashwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is delighted to share the success of a heart-warming and creative intergenerational event held on 26 November 2026.
A group of talented art students from HRC spent the morning with residents, sharing their knowledge, creativity, and passion. The students demonstrated various artistic techniques, from animated-style Christmas tree drawing to printmaking for festive cards. One student showcased digital art on an electronic tablet, leaving resident BM amazed that such detailed art could be created “all on a screen” without pencils or rubbers.
The visit sparked wonderful conversations, laughter, and genuine connection. As one resident, SG, shared:
“It was lovely to have some younger people within the home. They explained all about their art course at college and different types of drawing and art. It was such a lovely morning.”
The students also expressed their enjoyment, with one commenting:
“It was lovely to come and spend the morning in your home and with the residents. They were so welcoming and kind to us.”
The morning proved so successful that some students even offered to help clear leaves in the garden afterward, and more collaborative activities are already being planned. O

ne student enjoyed the experience so much that she asked to return on the day residents will be making mince pies, hoping to become more involved.
Carly, Lifestyle Coordinator, said the idea began when a member of the community approached the home to ask whether students could volunteer to support their applications for future education and employment. The result was a morning full of chatting, laughing, and interacting
Carly said. “It was a lovely morning of integrating two different generations and both groups said they learnt a lot from each other.”
A standout moment came when a student, inspired by her visit, asked if she could come again highlighting the positive impact of the experience on everyone involved.
Ashwood Care Home looks forward to welcoming the students back and continuing to build connections that uplift and inspire both residents and young people alike.
