Residents at Liberty House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed a fascinating journey back to Tudor times during a special heritage session held on Wednesday 4 February.

The interactive event marked the second visit from Kate of Doncaster Heritage, following the success of her first visit last year. Kate brought along an impressive collection of authentic Tudor artefacts, including ancient pottery discovered in Doncaster and a range of items traditionally used in upper-class homes, such as wooden plates and oil burners.

Residents and staff from Liberty House had the opportunity to closely examine the artefacts while learning how people lived, ate and worked during Tudor times. The session concluded with an engaging Tudor quiz.

The experience was met with great enthusiasm from residents. Ann, Resident at Liberty House, said, “I loved seeing all the old artefacts and hearing the stories of what they used and ate in Tudor times.”
Margaret, Resident at Liberty House, added, “It was wonderful to see all these special items. The Tudor quiz was very interesting and we learnt a lot about King Henry VIII and his wives.”

Residents reflected on how the session highlighted just how different life was in the past, with many commenting on how fortunate people are today to have modern comforts and conveniences.

The atmosphere throughout the event was filled with excitement and curiosity, as residents eagerly awaited each new artefact and story. The clear highlight of the day was the Tudor quiz, where residents learned when potatoes were introduced to Britain, what wealthy families would have eaten for Christmas dinner, and fascinating facts about Henry VIII’s six wives.

Liberty House continues to provide enriching, educational experiences that stimulate curiosity, encourage learning and support meaningful engagement for residents, with visits like this bringing history to life in an enjoyable way.
