Residents at Maun View Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together for a meaningful and emotional wellbeing activity as they created birthday cards to celebrate Amelia’s 8th birthday, marking a special moment of kindness and reflection.
The activity took place on Friday 6 February, after residents learned about Amelia’s journey, battling cancer at a young age. Moved by her story, residents were eager to take part in something that showed their support and care.
Lucy, Lifestyle Coordinator at Maun View Care Home, shared how impactful the experience was for everyone involved:
“It was a lovely thing for the residents to get involved in. I printed off Amelia’s story so the residents could read all about her journey, and it made a big impact on them. They really enjoyed making her birthday cards and wanted to send her a letter with the cards to explain how much her story meant to them. It was a lovely morning activity.”
Family members also joined residents during the session, helping their loved ones to make cards and share in the experience. One family member commented that they had already seen Amelia’s story on Facebook and were pleased to be able to get involved in such a thoughtful initiative.
The idea for the activity came after a company-wide initiative to support Amelia’s wish to break the record for the most cards sent to her. Maun View Care Home was keen to take part and incorporated the activity into its weekly wellbeing calendar.
The atmosphere during the session was reflective and heartfelt. Residents spoke openly about Amelia’s bravery and resilience, considering the strength it takes to face cancer at such a young age. Many described the experience as deeply moving and meaningful.
A standout moment of the morning saw three generations of one family come together, when a resident’s four-year-old great-granddaughter joined her nanny and great-grandmother to m

ake a card. Olivia, the young helper, enthusiastically assisted residents with gluing, glitter, and feathers. In recognition of her kindness, Lucy presented Olivia with a special medal for being such a wonderful helper, a moment that brought smiles to residents and staff alike.
The activity highlighted the compassion and empathy of Maun View Care Home residents, demonstrating how small acts of kindness can create powerful connections and meaningful experiences for everyone involved.
