Rose House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, brought the thrill of one of Britain’s most iconic sporting events to its residents by hosting a lively Grand National sweepstake on 11 April 2026, creating a day filled with excitement and community.

Residents, staff, visiting family members, and friends all came together to celebrate the famous race at Aintree. Ahead of the event, residents randomly drew horses, sparking friendly competition and animated conversations throughout the home. The activity encouraged many to reminisce about past Grand Nationals, sharing fond memories of favourite horses and memorable races.

The dayrooms were transformed into vibrant social hubs as the race unfolded, with cheering, clapping, and enthusiastic calls of horse names filling the air. For those few minutes, everyone was united in the same moment of anticipation and excitement.

Deputy Manager Kimberley commented:
“The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible. It was so lovely for all of the residents to come together in the dayrooms to share in the fun of the Grand National. The sweepstake, which involved the whole home, really was so much fun.”

Events such as the Grand National sweepstake play a significant role in supporting residents’ emotional and cognitive wellbeing. They create social connection by giving everyone something to talk about and enjoy together, strengthening friendships and a sense of belonging. Overall, the event created a lively, inclusive, and uplifting atmosphere, ensuring that residents felt engaged, connected, and very much part of something special.
