Residents, families, and staff at Alexandra House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, recently came together for a vibrant and uplifting Brain Dance Therapy Concert, led by professional dance and movement psychotherapist and brain coach, Ela Jarmuszkiewicz.
The event was designed to promote wellbeing through music and movement. Drawing on therapeutic techniques, Ela guided participants through engaging exercises aimed at building self-esteem, reducing anxiety, and strengthening coping mechanisms, all while having fun.
Residents enthusiastically embraced the session, with one sharing, “I really enjoyed dancing along to good songs I know,” while another commented, “I found the warm-up exercises fun, especially saying my name in different tones.”
The atmosphere throughout the event was described as happy, relaxed, and joyful, with a strong sense of community as residents, relatives, and staff participated together. A particularly heartwarming highlight was seeing residents smiling and dancing alongside their family members.
The idea for the concert grew from Ela’s previous one-to-one sessions with residents, where her work had already demonstrated clear benefits. Expanding this into a group setting allowed even more individuals to experience the joy and therapeutic value of movement.
Alexandra House remains committed to providing enriching and engaging experiences that support both the physical and emotional wellbeing of its residents.
