Monday Memories at Leawood Manor: Lewis Blackburn

As part of the Runwood Homes Group’s weekly Monday Memories initiative, residents at Leawood Manor have been sharing the remarkable stories that have shaped their lives. This week, the spotlight shines on Lewis Blackburn, aged 78, whose fascinating journey has taken him from the heart of Texas to the Leawood Manor community.

Affectionately known as the home’s very own “Texan Cowboy,” Lewis brings a unique blend of charm, knowledge, and character wherever he goes. Proud of his Texan roots, he enjoys sharing stories from his life, career, and travels with fellow residents and staff.

Before moving to the UK, Lewis ran a successful horse-whispering business in the United States, combining his natural connection with animals and his calm, patient nature. His passion for horses remains one of his most treasured memories, with many of his favourite moments centred around time spent with them and enjoying the great outdoors.

Lewis’s achievements extend far beyond ranch life. He holds a Master’s degree in Electrics and enjoyed a career working in finance across Europe, giving him a wealth of experience and countless fascinating stories to tell. A follower of the Buddhist faith, Lewis has a thoughtful and peaceful outlook on life that shines through in his interactions with those around him.

A true all-rounder, Lewis enjoys participating in activities, social occasions, and entertaining fellow residents with his humour and engaging personality. Popular with residents and staff alike, he is always willing to lend a helping hand and brings warmth, laughter, and a touch of Texas spirit to everyday life at Leawood Manor.

When reflecting on what advice he would give to his younger self, Lewis shared some heartfelt words of wisdom:

“Never stop chasing adventure and stay true to yourself. The kindness, wisdom, and calm nature you carry through life will touch so many people along the way. Keep following your passions, whether that’s travelling the world, working with horses, or helping others, because those experiences will become the stories and memories that inspire everyone around you.”

Lewis’s story is a wonderful reminder that a life filled with curiosity, kindness, and adventure can leave a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to hear it. Through Monday Memories, Leawood Manor continues to celebrate the incredible experiences, achievements, and personalities of all residents.bb03599e f369 44ea b55e e132d52285c0 0c900850 a7f1 46c6 9788 efc7feaa6567 54f02d56 9364 4a97 a878 f448ca3db62a
