Residents and staff at Redbond Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together on 12 June 2026 to celebrate Philippine Independence Day as part of the home’s ongoing “A Year of Culture” programme.
The special event was organised by Karen, Lifestyle Coordinator, who worked alongside the home’s catering team to create an authentic cultural experience for residents. The celebration featured a delicious selection of traditional Filipino dishes prepared by the home’s talented Filipino chefs, Louise, Rochelle and Jeff. Residents eagerly sampled the cuisine, with many enjoying the flavours so much that they returned for second helpings.
Following lunch, residents embarked on an armchair travel experience to the Philippines, exploring the country’s fascinating history, traditions, national dress, dance, music and stunning landscapes. Together with Filipino members of staff, residents viewed images and information about the country, gaining a deeper understanding of its culture and people.
The event was inspired by “A Year of Culture”, which encourages residents to explore different countries through armchair travel sessions and themed culinary experiences. Recognising the significance of Philippine Independence Day, the home’s catering team enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to share authentic Filipino cuisine with residents and colleagues.
One of the standout moments of the day was witnessing the dedication and teamwork of the catering staff. The chefs worked tirelessly to prepare the celebration, and their pride in sharing their culture was evident throughout the event.
Residents praised the experience, commenting on how much they enjoyed celebrating Philippine Independence Day with staff and learning more about the country and its traditions.
The event reflects Redbond Lodge’s ongoing commitment to creating enriching, inclusive and engaging experiences that celebrate the diverse cultures represented within its community.
