Shetland Pony pays a surprise visit to the residents at Ashwood care home

Honey Bee the Shetland Pony brought delight to the residents at Ashwood care home in Ware.

The Shetland Pony was welcomed into the care home earlier this month to meet with the residents on a one-to-one basis.

Over the years, the Runwood Homes’ team have continued to find and discover new ways to bring meaningful animal interaction to residents in care homes. Encouraging connections with visiting animals has many benefits for those in care, especially for those living with dementia.

Home Manager, Lisa Meeks, said: “The residents absolutely loved it and was quite emotional for the staff to see residents with the pony. For some of our residents it is difficult to go on many outings into the community; It was a real privilege to have her visit the home and look forward to welcoming her again in the future.”
