Westwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, was thrilled to welcome the local Worksop Fire Station for a special visit on the 20th of June. This heartwarming event aimed to foster community spirit and provide an enriching experience for the residents and their families.
During the visit, the fire brigade staff gave residents a comprehensive tour of the fire engine, explaining how various equipment and tools are used in emergency situations. The excitement peaked when some of the lovely residents were given the opportunity to operate the water hose, bringing smiles and laughter all around.
Following the tour, the fire brigade team joined the residents in the day centre for a delightful afternoon tea, complete with cups of tea and cake. It was a wonderful occasion that brought joy and a sense of community to everyone involved.
Natasha and Chloe, the Wellbeing Leads, commented on the event: “We had the local Worksop Fire Station come to our home at Westwood. They gave us all a tour of the fire engine and showed us how everything worked. They also let some of our lovely residents use the water hose. Afterward, they joined us in our day centre for a cup of tea and cake. It was a lovely day all around, with plenty of smiles from all.”
The visit from the Worksop Fire Station exemplifies the importance of community engagement and the positive impact such interactions have on the residents’ well-being. The care home staff and residents are grateful to the fire brigade staff for their time and effort in making this day memorable.
