Residents at Jubilee Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group have been busy spreading warmth—literally—by knitting tiny hats for premature babies at City Hospital, Hucknall Road, Nottingham. Guided by Deborah Mills, Lifestyle Coordinator, and joined by local ladies from the community, the group set out with a heartfelt mission: to provide much-needed warmth and comfort for Nottingham’s smallest, most vulnerable patients.
Each resident at Jubilee Court took pride in choosing colours and sizes, creating hats as unique as the babies who would wear them. During cosy knitting sessions, stories were shared, laughter filled the room, and friendships grew, proving that a simple act of kindness could bring people together in a powerful way. The residents delighted in the project’s purpose, knowing their efforts would make a tangible difference.
The delivery of the hats to City Hospital was a special occasion. Residents personally brought their knitted creations to the maternity unit and met with the dedicated staff, making the experience even more meaningful. Witnessing firsthand the need for these hats left them with a deep sense of fulfilment and pride.
“It was wonderful to be part of something that directly helps these tiny babies,” shared Deborah Mills, Lifestyle Coordinator at Jubilee Court. “Brenda, one of our residents, was thrilled to personally deliver the hats. We all know how much maternity units need these items, and it has been incredibly rewarding to support them in this way.”
This gesture highlights the spirit of compassion and community at Jubilee Court, where residents continually seek ways to give back. The project has inspired future initiatives, with everyone at Jubilee Court eager to make a difference.
