Brewster House care home in Maldon, part of the Runwood Homes Group, has taken on a heart-warming project to support orphaned baby rhinos in Africa. Every Tuesday, a group of dedicated ladies, alongside staff and family members, gather to knit squares and blankets for this unique cause. Volunteer Hilary, an experienced knitter, kindly donates her time to guide the group, helping them create beautiful blankets for the baby rhinos.
The initiative was born out of a desire to do something different, and when the group came across this remarkable project, they knew it was the perfect fit. The blankets will be sent to Africa, providing warmth and comfort to baby rhinos that have been orphaned. It’s an inspiring example of how Brewster House residents are making a meaningful impact across the globe.
Sylvia, a resident at Brewster House, shared:
“I have knitted for a long time, and this is something unusual to do, but I enjoy spending the time with my friends chatting while we knit. My sister couldn’t believe it when I told her what we were making.”
Leoni Kempen, Lifestyle Coordinator at Brewster House, commented:
“It’s so nice seeing the ladies all join together, having fun, and also welcoming Hilary, who is an experienced knitter. She kindly donates her time to help us. The ladies had a lot of work teaching me how to knit, but we got there, and we enjoy our afternoons together.”
This knitting project is a beautiful example of Brewster House’s commitment to community, creativity, and helping those in need – even across the globe. It brings residents together, not only to enjoy each other’s company but also to contribute to a cause that truly matters.
