Residents, families, and the local community came together at Park View Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, on Thursday 8th May for an unforgettable celebration to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.
The home was filled with joy, laughter, and a true sense of togetherness as everyone gathered for a vibrant street party, complete with entertainment, delicious food, and heartfelt tributes. The atmosphere was electric, and the event was a true celebration of community and remembrance.
A family member commended the event, saying, “The staff at Park View made this such a great day. It was lovely to be around so many people and share all our thoughts and memories.”
Highlights of the day included a moving rendition of ‘God Save Our Gracious King’ led by Roy, a powerful moment that brought many to tears. The official VE Day Proclamation was read aloud by the Mayor, adding a sense of occasion and respect to the proceedings.
Park View were also joined by businesses from the local community, including Crafty Bear Kitchen who had plenty of tasty treats for everyone to tuck in to. D&G Birds of Prey Rescue were also present, bringing their beautiful owls for the residents to meet and stroke.
One of the most touching moments came when a resident proudly sang the National Anthem, encapsulating the spirit of the day.
The event was a great success thanks to the incredible efforts of the Park View team, the support of families, and the wider community. Days like these are a reminder of the importance of coming together to celebrate history, unity, and the lives we share.
