Alexandra House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was alive with music, colour, and nostalgia on the 24th September 2025, as residents, staff, and families came together to celebrate a lively Rock & Roll Day. The event was inspired by the residents themselves as they suggested a fun day celebrating the era.
The day was a joyful throwback to the golden era of poodle skirts, jukebox hits, and classic moves. Staff joined in the fun by dressing up in 1950s-style outfits, and Paul the singer returned to entertain with live performances that had everyone singing along.
The residents fondly remembered the Rock & Roll era and requested a themed day full of dancing, music, and retro fashion.
“Singing in the microphone brought back memories,” one resident shared, while another smiled and said, “The skirts are lovely and reminds me of when I used to wear one.”
A family member also commented, “Once again, a wonderful event done by the lifestyle team at Alexandra House Care Home.”
The atmosphere was full of fun and happiness, as everyone came together to celebrate a much-loved era. One standout moment was when Alexandra House’s eldest resident performed a touching duet of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Elvis Presley with Paul, a moment that touched the hearts of everyone in the room.
The special day brought everyone together through costumes, music and dancing. Some residents even told staff how they wanted to make their own skirts!
The event is another shining example of how Alexandra House continues to put resident-led care and meaningful engagement at the heart of everything they do.
