Residents at Westwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a wonderful and engaging morning on Thursday 15 January, when they welcomed Charlotte and her mobile zoo into the day centre for a special animal therapy session.

The visit gave residents the opportunity to cuddle, hold, and feed a variety of animals, creating a joyful and interactive experience for everyone involved. Known for their love of animals, residents were fully engaged throughout the session, with smiles visible across the room.

Natasha and Chloe, Lifestyle Co-ordinators at Westwood, commented:

“Our residents love anything to do with animals, and visits like this always bring so much happiness and engagement. It’s amazing to see the positive impact animal therapy has on everyone.”

All residents and staff took part in the event, which forms part of Westwood’s regular programme of animal therapy visits. Charlotte, who visits the home frequently, brings a variety of animals each time, ensuring residents continue to enjoy new and enriching experiences.

Animal therapy plays an important role in supporting wellbeing, helping to reduce anxiety, encourage interaction, and bring comfort and joy to residents. The atmosphere during the visit was described as amazing, with residents fully engaged and delighted by the animals.

A standout highlight of the day was seeing every resident smiling and interacting with the animals, making the visit a truly uplifting and memorable experience for all at Westwood.
